Goal Clarification Through Using Ideal Scenes
Once you identify a goal that you want to achieve, there are several ways to go about goal clarification. The clearer you are about how you feel about what you want to achieve, the easier that goal will be to manifest. One of the methods of goal clarification is to create an Ideal Scene. Start by writing down (on paper or electronically) what it is that you want to achieve. As with all goals it should be written positively and in the present tense. To fully activate your inner creative potential they should also include the positive emotion that you want to feel as you achieve your goal. Positively, means that you write down your goal as what you want in your life. Not what you don’t want. These statements will generally be in the form of being, doing or having goals. For example, Instead of writing down something like: I want to get out of this job I hate. You would write: I am now working at a career I love! One of the beautiful things about Ideal Scenes is that they help you clarify how you want to feel once you’ve achieved your goal, but you don’t have to worry about the details that aren’t clear to you yet. To fully activate your inner creative potential they should also include the positive emotion that you want to feel as you achieve your goal. So, for the example of changing careers, you could (if they resonate with you) make the following statements: I am now working at a career I love. I am happy that I am able to use my creative abilities. I am grateful for the flexibility I now have in my day. I am joyfully increasing my income on a regular basis. You would continue like that allowing positive and emotion-filled statements to flow from you. This technique also allows you to be as linear or creative as you choose. In her classic book, "Creative Visualization",
Shakti Gawain
describes the process as follows: "Exercise:Think of a goal that is important to you. It can be a long range or short range one. Write down the goal as clearly as possible in one sentence, the situation exactly as you would like it to be when your goal is fully realized. Describe it in the present tense, as if it already exists, in as much detail as you wish. When you have finished, write at the bottom: “This or something better is now manifesting for me in totally satisfying and harmonious ways,” And add any other affirmations you wish, and sign your name." You could also do your Ideal Scene as a mind map. In that instance you would write your goal – your I am statement – in the center of the page. Then you would connect it to the various aspects of your goals via lines. There are several
good software programs
that help with the process.
